Likewise, a three-leaf clover is considered as a divine symbol in Ireland. Everywhere, we find that the number 3 has a universal pull. Apart from the mathematical importance of the number, there is another use for this number in life.
If you carefully observe several mottos of either prestigious institutions or historical movements, or even countries, the number of words or concepts is three. There is some mysterious attraction to this number. But not without reason.
As with other instances, successful aging also has 3 mantras. These can be simply put as – physical, psychological and social dimensions. These may not be new to you. You would have even talked about these in casual conversations. But how well do we embrace these dimensions when it comes to our life?
These three dimensions go hand-in-hand. The common tendency is to focus on one of the aspects at a time and ignore the others. The foremost step in carving a joyful life for us, is being aware of the phase we are in. identify the physical, psychological and social aspects of your life. An easy way to get it done is by noting down the following:

- Medicine schedules with dosages
- Exercise routine and diet plans
- Your reaction to different situations and the feelings evoked
- Wish-list for places to visit and people to meet
By writing these down yourself, you will get a general idea of these aspects. Based on your notes, you can make changes wherever you can. Even if is a small aspect of your routine. Take caution when it comes to the physical dimension – consult with your doctor and loved ones before you make a change.
Medical or medicine changes by self – are not advised. It may lead to a drastic downward spiral rather than improvements. If you feel you need to change something, talk openly about it to your doctor or therapist. Depending on your habit and preference you can note down this peeks-into-life everyday and decrease as and when you get fully acquainted with yourself.
Now that you know, what next? Get-going, of course! It may be difficult to step into new shoes immediately. But get started. Do what you have to do. The most important aspect ignored is the social dimension. It is important to communicate and converse. Share your experiences and opinions. Don’t stay away from people or moving around. If you have physical limitations, prepare ahead of the travel. Embark on the tour you always wanted to go on.
2. Appreciate
The next part of the process is – appreciate. Recognize the long journey you have traveled in. Revel in your memories and experiences, no matter what they are. It is very important for us to “pat ourselves on the back”. For the small changes, you are making. For your willingness to bring about a positive change.
At the same time, it is essential to know that making changes is a slow process and it is okay if it takes longer than you expected. Like the metamorphosis of a caterpillar to a butterfly. Give your self some time and love.
3. Wellbeing
The concept of holistic wellbeing is not new. Different countries throughout the world make attempts in different names. It can be Japan’s 5S or Denmark’s ‘Hygge’. They all emphasize system, discipline to a better life. In some, the core philosophy is mindless living. It is about ‘Just Be!’

- Break out of your shell and use technology to your advantage. There is a plethora of health apps, memo apps and options, magnifying apps to help you read small scripts. Make use of them and get the feel of a teenager. Also, a good way to show-off to your grandkids!
- Keep yourself engaged and occupied. Play Scrabble, solve puzzles. If it suits you go for mild paintball sessions. Be the best of you. Always.
